2016 Idaho High School Track and Field State Championships

Capital junior Britt Ipsen rotates in his triple jump landing during the Idaho High School Track and Field State 5A Championships at Dona Larsen Park on May 21, 2016. Ipsen's best jump of 46-01.75 was good for second place behind teammate Sam Brixey's 46-08.25.

Borah junior Malia Vineyard is all smiles after anchoring the 4x200 relay team (1:43.15) to victory during the 5A Idaho State Championships. Vineyard and her teammates on the 4x200 (Katelyn Powell, Amanda Chipman, and Kiana Corpus) also went on to win the 4x400 (3:57.45).
The Idaho High School Track and Field State Championships. One of my favorite events each year. I made it for about half the 5A/4A meet at Dona Larsen Park in Boise, Idaho on May 20-21, 2016. I always appreciate the opportunity provided by the IHSAA and the meet official for the access around the meet.

Pocatello sophomore Harlee Hales has a dominating win in the Idaho State Championships 4A 200 meter dash with a time of 25.79. Hales finished with four golds, anchoring her team's 800 meter sprint and 4x400 relay teams to victory in addition to her 200 meter win and meet record setting 400 meter run (55.63).

Caldwell Sophomore Mark Sullivan clears 14-00 on this vault and would go on to clear 15-00 to win the Idaho State Championships 4A pole vault title. Mark was the third member in his family to win a pole vault title while representing Caldwell High School. His dad, Troy, won a state title in 1978, and his brother, Matt, won titles in 2011 and 2012.

Number one seed, Capital junior Kari Taylor (orange spikes) at the start of the Idaho State Championships 5A 800 meter run. Taylor finished first in 2:14.04.

Mountain View senior Andre Jones has the lead in Heat 1 of the Idaho State Championships 5A 110 meter high hurdles on May 20, 2016. Jones posted the fastest qualifying time with a 14.69. Jones finished second in the finals with a time 14.51 behind Capital's Sam Brixey's 14.21.

Rocky Mountain senior Michael Slagowski has a dominate lead after the first lap on his way to setting a 800 meter record (1:49.36) at the Idaho State Championships. Slagowski defended his 800 meters, 1600 (4:16.76) and 3200 (9:36.86) titles. He entered the meet with the nation's fastest high school times in the 800 (1:48.36), 1600 (4:03.97), and mile (3:59.53).

Capital junior Tristin Bowens and Mountain View sophomore Tori Sloan separate from the field after the first 40 meters of the Idaho State Championships 5A 100 meter sprint. Bowens held her lead to win (12.18) and was followed by Sloan (12.35).
Bishop Kelly anchor Matt Dean celebrates winning the 4A 4x400 relay.

Starter Nick Ciaccio takes momentary protection from the elements. Rain showers and occasional downpours occurred over the two day Idaho State Championships on May 20-21, 2016.

Borah senior Sara Christianson increases her lead during the second lap of the 5A 1600 meter Idaho State Championships. Christiansen would win going away in setting a new state meet record (4:53.86). A day earlier, she set a state meet record in the 3200 (10:36) in the rain.
Capital senior Sam Brixey sets his blocks for the 5A 110 hurdles final. Brixey repeated as state champion in the 110 (14.21) and 300 hurdles (38.01) and also added wins in the long jump (22-4) and triple jump (46-8.25).
